Obituary:
HARTFORD CITY – Robert “Bob” E. Murphy, 85, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Blackford Community Hospital.
He was born in Kennard, IN. on March 30, 1925 to the late Edgar J. Murphy and the late Thelma C. (Supinger) Murphy.
Bob served in the United States Army from July 22, 1943 to November 3, 1944.
He married Wilma Jean (Smith) Murphy on September 25, 1949 in Clarksville, Indiana. She precedes him in death on January 8, 2010.
Bob retired from 3-M Company in 1982 after 35 years of service. He was a member of First Christian Church – Disciples of Christ in Hartford City where he was an Elder – Deacon Emeritus and a 75 year member of the church. Bob sang in the Church Choir and was a member of the Church Bell Choir. Bob Graduated from Hartford City High School in 1943 and received his Bachelor of Science in Business with Distinction from Indiana University School of Business in 1949. He was an Eagle Scout. Bob was Active in the reorganization of the Hartford City Cemetery Assoc. and served as treasure for many years.
He will be sadly missed by his son, Steven D. (wife, Lisa S.) Murphy of Muncie; daughter, Karen S. (husband, Stan T.) Hickman of West Lafayette, Indiana; grandchildren, Brandon E. Murphy, Travis R. Murphy, Kathryn Hickman, Sara Hickman, Matthew Hickman, Kristi Hickman; brother-in-law, Lowell B. (wife, Doris) Smith of New Albany, Indiana; sister-in-law, Marjorie (husband, Del) Fore of Louisville, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Bob will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St. Hartford City, IN with Pastor Keith Kincaid of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Hartford City Cemetery.
Visitation for Bob will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2010 at Keplinger Funeral Home and two hours before the service on Tuesday.
